Here’s a little more about what got us started and what keeps us going.
MKT opened in the summer of 2015 after friends, Ali Hartman and June Lupiani, had a little too much rosé in Ali’s backyard and the conversation turned to the town’s recently closed general store. Musings turned into ideas and ideas into dreams and dreams into plans. After putting pen to paper, those plans became a reality. We were going to bring a 200 year old shuttered general store and two additional businesses back to life. We were going to make them destinations for good food and a hub for the community. We were going to make a place that was warm, welcoming, fresh and unexpected.
It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t anything like we thought it would be. But it was worthwhile and fun and beautiful. And here we are, still standing. We are so proud of what we’ve built thanks to the hard work and support of so many.
We have an incredible team that forms the backbone of the MKT experience. Together, we work every day to support local people with jobs and local farmers, producers and artists by what we stock on the shelves. We strive to create delicious experiences and events through our restaurant and catering business. We ship a little bit of Vermont goodness and a whole lot of love anywhere in the country through our online store. We’re always working to grow and learn. We are also always up for more adventures, so if you have ideas or want to collaborate, you can contact us here.
We love what we do and we love sharing it with you. We hope you’ll come see us soon.
